The Exped Downmat Lite 5 is an ultralight expedition sleeping mat designed for warmth and comfort at temperatures down to -12°C. The mat is 5cm thick and filled with high quality duck down, this means that the downmat falls somewhere between a traditional airbed and a self inflating mat in terms of warmth and support. These mats have been scientifically proven to be 3 times warmer than a self-inflating foam mat of the same weight. Plus, another massive advantage of the Downmat is that it can be packed much quicker and takes up a lot less space in your pack, making it ideal for the fast and light adventure racer and minimalist backpacker.
The Downmat Lite is inflated using the Mini Pump that is inluded. This mat has a single two way valve that the pump attaches to. The pump will inflate the mat in around one minute and should be used rather than blowing straight into the mat, as your breath contains moisture that may impare the down.
Similar to a sleeping bag, baffles between the mat's chambers eliminate cold spots and promote a stable and supportive air cushion. Light foam blocks at the mat's ends prevent down from escaping or migrating between chambers. The laminated polyester fabric is both durable and airtight. The top surface of honeycomb textured fabric provides superior slip resistance and comfort next to the skin. Seams and valves are all high-frequency welded (most secure method of fusing fabrics and materials) to ensure mat durability and integrity.
